What was the last thing that gave you a real, authentic, tearful, hearty belly laugh? Why was it so funny?
A couple of months back, my eleven year old niece was going to perform in a school talent show. She practiced and practiced and practiced and all was right in the world. The night of the show, we drop her off and head to the auditorium. This was my first time seeing one of these things in person. I had seen them in movies, and knew that expecting anything like that would be unreasonable. These were kids, not professionals. They chose two students to be the Emcee’s for the night. As the children came to perform, they read off a sheet with the student’s name, age, and something about them. Some were normal….”This is so and so. He is nine years old. He likes playing video games.” My niece was performing a song with two friends. They walked up and were introduced. When my niece came out….They read her card. “This is Izzy. She is 10. She likes to party.” My sister and I burst out laughing. So did the whole crowd. “She likes to what!?” It was a good time. After the show, we all asked her…”So, you like to party huh? What does that even mean?” “Oh…you know…play minecraft….hang out with friends…listen to music….” We were happy that she had her own definition of the word. Funny stuff.
