Soft drinks, electronics, nutrient-free snacks — you can get all of those from a vending machine. But what type of vending machine is sorely needed but doesn’t yet exist? Share your automated retail fantasies with us!
You can get just about anything from a vending machine. I really enjoyed getting a hot meal and coffee from one at a job I had when I first graduated high school. It was terribly bad and often still not cooked through, but…damnit….that machine did the cooking for you. Even if it meant standing in front of the machine while I nuked your nasty sandwich for 5 minutes. I was just fascinated by it. I get that way. Same reason I like renting movies from vending machines sometimes. I like the whirring sound and then receiving my reward. But…say you’re just havin’ one of those days….maybe you’re just down….perhaps not feeling very motivated? Don’t ya wish ya could just push a button and voila! Instant motivation, inspiration, encouragement, whatever? Going through hard times? Push that little button there….”You’ve got this.” Feeling a little uninspired? There’s that little button again….”Believe you can and you’re halfway there.” Theodore Roosevelt. I know you can look up inspiring quotes (I just did) and little anecdotes and cool stories about people doing something fantastic…or even just getting out of bed in the morning (somtimes that’s an amazing thing in itself, right?) online…and everyone’s got a fancy little pocket computer…but wouldn’t it be nice to have the hard copy? You walk up…push the button…and boom…it’s on a huge screen…maybe playing a fanfare…give that quote some damned theme music. Make it an experience…and then instead of a receipt…because why the hell would they make you pay for a piece of paper with words on it….you get a printout of the quote, story, etc to carry with you. Sometimes that’s encouragement enough. And say you run into someone having a bad day as well….”You’ve got this….” hand it on. Might just give em a smile and that’s never a bad thing. Better yet….Just tell them…cause…well…hearing it come from someone….always makes it a little better.
